About Copywriting

Like many Freelance Copywriters, I have worked across a wide range of industries (see Links) but now find myself working mostly (but certainly not exclusively) with other business support services - such as training companies and event organisers.

In 25 years as a Secretary/Personal Assistant, I have written all kinds of marketing and promotional material (press releases, job descriptions, recruitment ads, sales letters), as well as contributing ideas and articles to various publications.

My Freelance Secretarial, In the Shed Secretarial, opened its virtual doors in April 2000 and quickly found a niche working with accountancy firms, solicitors and property professionals.

Building on this, in 2008, I took the short step to set up In the Shed Copywriting.

To give you an idea of how In the Shed Copywriting can help your business, my writing services include:

  • Press releases:

Whether as a one-off or part of a series, a press release is the most cost-effective form of publicity.  Regular press releases (say, every 3 months) can act as a small-scale PR campaign, helping your company name reaches as many potential clients as possible.
  • Articles:

Writing features for trade magazines/local press can also be excellent (and value-for-money) way to promote your business.  Working with you, I can help you share your knowledge and experience and make sure your articles are placed in the most appropriate publications for your intended audience.
  • Ghostwriting:

Do you write a weekly blog, contribute to a company newsletter or write for a magazine?  Do you always have the time to do this effectively and professionally?   As In the Shed Copywriting, I have 'ghosted' several articles and Q&A columns and can assist with even the trickiest article or tightest deadline!
  • Websites:

A well-written website can reveal a lot about a company - its personality, its values and the way it reaches out to its clients.  By using a simple format, clear concise copy and including keywords and phrases In the Shed Copywriting can help you build a website that stands out from your competitors.
  • Direct Mail:

Like web copy, direct mail should be straight-forward and easy to read, highlighting your products and services.  With 10 years' experience in writing direct mail letters, I can help your potential clients see how they can benefit from your expertise.
